Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency the website which offers videos and blog posts that analyze portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, critic, as well as an award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. She is the founder and the director executive of Feminist Frequency, a not-for-profit educational website that explores representations of women within popular media narratives. Removing gender stereotypes is the main goals of her organization. She also strives to raise awareness about problems like harassing and targeted attacks against women in the online world. Holding a master's degree in politics and sociology from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public talker. She has also delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was interested in female issues as well as feminism from a young age. In 2009, when she was a student at the university level, she launched the site Feminist Frequency.
